Northern leopard frogs raised in Edmonton Valley Zoo

Nearly 300 tadpoles have been released in the wild in British Columbia as part of an effort to restore the endangered Rocky Mountain population of northern leopard frogs (Lithobates pipiens) in Alberta. The tadpoles were raised at the Edmonton Valley Zoo as part of a breeding program to conserve the frog, which is considered at risk in the province. Populations in western Canada began to decline in the 1970s. These frogs were released in wetlands near Kimberly, B.C.
