Zion bighorns diagnosed with pneumonia

Officials at Utah’s Zion National Park are asking visitors to listen for coughing bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis nelson). Biologists have say it could be a sign of pneumonia, which for the first time has been detected in the park’s herd. A ewe was diagnosed with the illness on July 20, the Associated Press reports, and park biologists want to see how far the illness has spread. About 500 bighorn sheep, in a herd of 800, live on the east side of the park.
