Report finds provinces fell far short of conservation pledge

A report by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society found most Canadian provinces fell far short of the country’s 10-year goal to conserve 17% of its land mass by 2020. Only Quebec and the federal government came close. Quebec met the goal. The federal government exceeded its goal to conserve 10% of its oceans but it fell three percentage points shy of its land mass goals. Canada agreed to the targets as part of its 2010 Aichi agreement. Its next goal is to conserve 30% of its land and oceans by 2030.
