Rare white grizzly appearance concerns park officials

Tourists have been abuzz about the appearance of a white grizzly bear since the animal was spotted in April in Banff National Park. But wildlife managers and researchers are concerned that the grizzly’s (Ursus arctos horribilis) popularity will lead to dangerous conflict in a park that already experiences problems with tourists crowding roadside wildlife. In the worst case scenario, they worry that this could force officials to kill the bear to protect people. They also worry that excited crowds could present an obstacle to the movement of the bear that officials have been aware of for several years.
