UK county puts on red light for bats

An English county is pioneering the use of street lighting intended to reduce impacts on bats. The Worcestershire County Council has installed red LED lights along a crossing area on a highway that passes along the Warndon Wood nature reserve. Council members chose the lights over white lights, which they said can deter bats from crossing roads and may attract insects away from the bats’ typical feeding areas.
