Efforts to increase diversity in the wildlife profession are on the rise, but there is still a long way to go. In the May/June issue of The Wildlife Professional, our cover story looks at the work that wildlife agencies, organizations and individuals are undertaking to create a more diverse, inclusive and equitable field by supporting and providing opportunities for people of different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, disabilities and other identities. Contributed articles in our special focus consider the importance of inclusion, the LGBTQ+ experience in the wildlife profession, the role diversity played in shaping Aldo Leopold’s philosophy and a look back at what has — and hasn’t — changed over the past decade in creating a more diverse field.

Other articles examine the use of hair and skin samples to collect biomarkers without capturing wildlife, reimagining conservation on private land, important changes proposed to TWS bylaws and a peek at the plenary at the upcoming Annual Conference.
