CWD Continues to Spread in Michigan

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is awaiting confirmation that a fifth deer in the state has tested positive for chronic wasting disease — a fatal disease that attacks the animals’ brain and nervous system. The one-year-old doe was hunted in Clinton County’s Watertown Township and sent in for testing, where preliminary tests indicate that the deer had CWD. DNR deer specialist Chad Stewart said this case suggests more CWD positive deer will crop up in Clinton County, which is outside of the nine-township CWD Core Area that the DNR had established.
