Announcing the new issue of The Wildlife Professional

The American bison is a stunning example of conservation success in North America. Named the national mammal of the United States in May 2016, intensive efforts saved the species from near extinction. Our cover feature looks at the challenges faced today by stakeholders involved in bison management, including the National Park Service, state wildlife agencies, The Nature Conservancy and Native America tribes.

The issue also features contributed articles on an attempt to measure the economic value of wildlife beyond hunting, a highly successful K – 12 citizen science program in New Mexico and how a major surge in the population of the double-crested cormorant is negatively impacting fisheries, aquaculture, co-nesting species and habitats used by the birds.
