Wolf’s massive California journey ends with vehicle strike

A wolf that journeyed from Oregon into Southern California has died after being struck by a vehicle. The male gray wolf (Canis lupus), known as OR93, was found dead in Kern Coounty, about 75 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. It’s the farthest south a wolf has been seen in California since they were wiped out of the state in the 1920s. The wolf was born to the White River pack in northern Oregon in 2019. It was one of a few wolves that have entered Colorado from other states in recent years.
