Nicolas (he/him/el) is a college graduate from Cal Poly Humboldt where he earned a bachelor’s in wildlife conservation and a bachelor’s in environmental economics. He is a second-generation student with family hailing from Choluteca, Honduras. After learning a lot from Indigenous educators across the United States, he shifted his focus from pure conservation to critical social science where he has worked to craft adaptive management of protected lands and species. Most recently, he has been awarded NSF grants to study migrating raptors and their relationships with wind energy developments. He hopes to share every achievement with students after him so he is one of many Latinos excelling in STEM.
Nick brings a host of experience working in outreach and inclusive education to the executive board. After attending a Hispanic and Minority-Serving Institution, he collaborated with university faculty to make opportunities more accessible to undergraduates. He deepened this passion by working as an AmeriCorps fellow with interpretation staff at the Bureau of Land Management. Crafting bilingual curriculum became his passion, particularly for students surrounded by the majestic nature of Northern California. He is now honored to share this passion across North America and cannot wait for his next adventure.
