Celtics co-owner gives $2 million to aid manatees
A co-owner of the Boston Celtics has made a $2 million donation to aid manatees in Florida. The Fox Rock Foundation, a charitable foundation overseen by Celtics co-owner Rob Hale and his wife, Karen, announced the gift to two Florida nonprofits, the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida and Save the Manatee Club. The Hales own a home in Naples, Florida, where they learned that manatees (Trichechus manatus) were dying in record numbers due to pollution killing off the native seagrass they rely on. The organizations plan to use the funds to improve habitats used by the manatees, including replanting native vegetation.
