Monterey Area In-Person Lecture Series and Social Hour!

Cruise Ship Noise in the MBNMS Soundscape

Carmel Craft Brewery
3777 The Barnyard, #Ste I-14, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, 93923
Thursday June 30, 6-8pm

We are excited to announce our first in-person lecture series and social hour in over two years! Join us as our Chapter is pleased to host Jack Barkowski from Moss Landing Marine Labs for his talk on how cruise ship noise impacts wildlife in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Jack is a graduate student in the Vertebrate Ecology Lab at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and an analyst on the SanctSound Project. Sanctsound was a 3 year acoustic monitoring project that recorded the soundscapes in underwater national marine sanctuaries around the country, ending in April 2022. Cruise ships in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary were opportunistically recorded on 17 different days in 2019 – Jack will discuss how these cruise ships contributed to the soundscape and how they might be impacting the wildlife in the MBNMS.
