Welcome to the Alabama Chapter of The Wildlife Society
Founded in 1978, the Alabama Chapter of The Wildlife Society (ACTWS) is a professional organization that serves and represents wildlife professionals in all areas of wildlife conservation and resource management. It is dedicated to the scientific conservation of wildlife resources and to furthering the education of those involved with or interested in wildlife conservation. The ACTWS promotes rigorous professional ethics for wildlife scientists and managers, facilitates the exchange of technical information, and works to influence legislation impacting wildlife resources.
Alabama Chapter Goals
- Develop and maintain professional standards for wildlife research and management.
- Enhance knowledge and technical capabilities of wildlife managers.
- Advance professional stewardship of wildlife resources and their habitats.
- Advocate the use of sound biological information for wildlife policy decisions.
- Increase public awareness and appreciation of the wildlife profession.

Officer Nominations – Deadline = June 30
At the annual conference we will elect new officers for the Calendar Year 2025 season.
Nominations are needed for the positions of President Elect, Southeastern Section Representative and At Large Board Member.

Award Nominations – Deadline = June 30
Nominations for Biologist of the Year and Lifetime Achievement awards are made by using the attached guidelines and sending an email to jefbaker@southernco.com by June 30. Please nominate your fellow chapter members for these prestigious awards. Full details on the Awards Page.
Silent Auction and Sponsorships – For our annual fundraiser, we’ll hold a silent auction and we also need conference sponsors. Please bring silent auction items to the conference. If your organization would like to sponsor the annual conference, please reach out to alabamatws@gmail.com for information.
Lodging – We recommend booking a room early if you plan to attend the Biscuits Ballgame social. Rooms near the stadium include the Embassy Suites (Embassy Suites By Hilton Hotel Montgomery-Conference Center – Guest Reservations [guestreservations.com]) and Doubletree (DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Montgomery Downtown [hilton.com]). Some of you may prefer to book a room closer to the meeting venue in Millbrook. Hotels near Lanark include Hampton [hilton.com] and Holiday Inn Express [ihg.com].
