The Alaska Chapter of The Wildlife Society submitted formal comments to the USDA and USFS in response to the proposed rescission of the 2001 Roadless Areas Conservation Rule. The Chapter provided detailed reasoning for its opposition of the rulemaking proposal, including a synthesis of the management of National Forests in Alaska and how those lands could be impacted by the removal of Roadless Rule protections. The Chapter’s position on this rulemaking is directly supported by TWS’ Issue Statement on the Management of Old Growth Forests, which advocates for the conservation of rare, vulnerable forest types such as highly productive old-growth stands.
