The Southeastern Section of The Wildlife Society submitted this letter to the Georgia Deparment of Natural Resources calling for the addition of the eastern diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus) to the Georgia Protected Species List. The letter notes that, while progress has been made in efforts to conserve the species, it is still vulnerable to threats like habitat loss and human persecution. The Section states that “Georgia’s goal should be to preemptively conserve this species to preclude a federal listing under the Endangered Species Act, which would likely be more restrictive than state regulations.”
