On May 5, U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke announced the appointment of Greg Sheehan as Deputy Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Sheehan, former Director of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, will begin in this newly-created position in mid-June. Sheehan has 25 years of experience in the natural resources and wildlife management field working with local, regional, and national partners and conservation organizations. He has worked on growing and sustaining big game populations, expanding fishing and hunting opportunities, and enhancing state-based management for threatened and endangered species. The administration has yet to put forward a nomination for Director of USFWS. Sheehan will serve as Acting Director of the Service until a Director is confirmed by the Senate.
