Laura Bies joined The Wildlife Society’s staff in 2005, after completing her J.D. at George Washington University. She remained on staff until 2015, working in the government affairs program. During that time, she also helped to develop the Leadership Institute. Since 2015, Laura has continued to work with TWS as a contractor, providing additional policy capacity and also serving as the Leadership Institute coordinator in recent years.
Outside of her work for TWS, Bies is the Executive Director of the Ornithological Council, a consortium of ornithology professional societies. Laura and her family live in Maine, where they enjoy getting outdoors in any weather.
