Join the Military Lands Working Group for a webinar, Improving the Utility of Avian Radar for Bird Strike Avoidance and Habitat Management. Researchers at the University of Montana, working in conjunction with Ellsworth and Offutt Air Force Bases, have found novel approaches to increase the utility of dedicated avian radar systems for bird strike avoidance and associated habitat management. By taking advantage of the unique tracking ability and long-term datasets collected by MERLIN radar systems, our team has successfully classified radar tracks to bird morphological and biomass groups, examined relationships between habitat and bird flight activity, and quantified three-dimensional bird strike risk. By creating usable products for managers, we have increased the ability of Ellsworth and Offutt to make informed decisions to reduce bird strike risk using fully autonomous systems.

All webinars are recorded and can be found at wildlife.org/events in the week following the live webinar.

The Wildlife Society will allow a maximum of one Continuing Education Unit (CEU) in Category I of the Certified Wildlife Biologist® Renewal Program for participation in this webinar.
