Whooping cranes encounter numerous anthropogenic disturbances and threats during their spring and autumn migrations across the Great Plains of the United States. Department of Defense (DoD) operations can be a source of disturbances, but insights from research offer minimization and avoidance options. In this webinar, we will describe three instances where migrating whooping cranes interacted with DoD activities. These case studies highlight examples where shared concerns, positive results from conflicts, and collateral benefits can create mutually beneficial solutions for conservation efforts and the DoD.
