An interdisciplinary team of wildlife professionals and statisticians recently discovered that we can leverage correlation in disease among free-ranging wildlife to dramatically reduce the sample sizes needed to study disease prevalence at the population scale. We programmed a Shiny app to compute sample sizes given the unique clustering tendencies of any wildlife species of interest: https://cwhl2.shinyapps.io/SimpleSampleSizeApp/. We demonstrate the app using several wildlife/disease systems in North America, but valid applications are endless!
