The Wildlife Society engaged with congressional members ahead of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, and Water hearing examining the challenges and opportunities with implementing the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to express the perspective of wildlife professionals. The letter emphasizes that effective implementation of the ESA requires science-based decision-making, habitat protection, adequate staffing and funding, and collaboration with states, tribes, and private landowners, while cautioning against policies that bypass scientific processes for short-term economic or energy development goals in alignment with our ESA position statement
