Block, Blackwell earn McAtee-Burger Award

Bill Block, associate editor for the Journal of Wildlife Management, and Bradley Blackwell, associate editor for the Wildlife Society Bulletin, are the 2021 recipients of the W. L. McAtee and G. V. Burger Award for Outstanding Service as Associate Editors.

Both recipients are well known for their professionalism and willingness to work with authors to maximize the impact of their work.  Although their dedication to improving article quality demands a great deal of time, editors said, both associate editors also have a reputation for handling a very heavy manuscript load while maintaining turnaround times well below average for their respective journals.

The McAtee-Burger Award recognizes the outstanding work of an associate editor for TWS’ two peer-reviewed journals.

JWM editor Paul Krausman praised Block’s professionalism and kindness toward authors. “Bill is an outstanding associate editor, timely, professional, and always willing to help new authors and seasoned professionals,” he wrote in his nomination letter.

Blackwell “distinguished himself as a fair, supportive and optimistic associate editor who consistently engages with authors to identify and present rigorous scientific information as part of the manuscript publication process in the Wildlife Society Bulletin,” wrote former WSB editor Dave Haukos and current WSB editor Brett Collier.
