Rare wolverine spotted in California

It’s only the second confirmed wolverine seen in the state in the past century

A wolverine has been spotted in the wild in California—a rare sighting in the state. Only one other wolverine has been confirmed in California in the past century.

The wolverine (Gulo gulo) was spotted multiple times in Inyo National Forest and Yosemite National Park. The last time a wolverine was seen in the state was in 2018. That was the first known appearance since wolverines were considered extirpated in the state in 1922.
