Phone app sends kids on state parks adventures

Maybe it doesn’t have to be a fight with kids between screen time and outdoor exploring. Colorado Parks & Wildlife has created an augmented reality app designed to engage young people when they visit state parks. The free phone app, Agents of Discovery, engages kids in a mission, navigating from point to point across the park. It also keeps track of things like how many of the challenges they find, how long they spend looking and how far they walk.

“Instead of fighting with them to keep it in their pockets, why not let them use it to discover interesting things about the park?” says Barr Lake State Park manager Michelle Seubert.
