New wolf pack ID’d in California

The wolves are 200 miles away from the nearest known pack

California wildlife officials have identified a new wolf pack in the state. The pack in Tulare County is about 200 miles from the nearest known pack. A wolf sighting was reported in Sequoia National Forest in July. California Department of Fish and Wildlife staff members found wolf tracks and collected scat and hair samples that revealed at least five individuals.

The pack included one adult female that is a descendant of the first wolf to repopulate California and four offspring—two males and two females.
