Instagram filter keeps Wyoming visitors a safe distance from wildlife
Visit Jackson Hole’s new Instagram filter will warn guests when they’re getting too close
As more people visit national parks and other public lands throughout the country, the more headlines circulate with news of visitors approaching wildlife for a photo opportunity. Visit Jackson Hole recently launched a “Selfie Control” filter on Instagram that will alert guests when they’re getting too close to an animal. “Many of them are coming without the information of knowing and understanding that these are wild animals, that this is not a zoo, and that these animals need space,” Crista Valentino, executive director of the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board told ABC News. The filter will allow the user to scroll through animal options to find the species they are observing. Then, if the animal appears bigger than the icon on the filter, the visitors will be required to move back to an appropriate distance before they’re able to take a photo.
