Do wolves limit CWD’s spread?

Could wolves help limit the spread of chronic wasting disease? Researchers in Yellowstone National Park are studying the “predator cleansing effect” to see what role wolves (Canis lupus) may play in reducing the spread by preying on sick cervids. The question raises the possibility that wolf reintroduction in their historic range could help manage wildlife diseases.

“There is no vaccine” for CWD, researcher Ellen Brandell told the New York Times. “Can predators potentially be the solution?”
