Alex Fish receives 2021 Rusch scholarship

Fish is studying American woodcock (Scolopax minor) migration ecology in eastern North America. He helped build a collaborative research team involving 36 governmental, nongovernmental and nonprofit organizations to increase the scope of his research. Fish has held numerous field technician jobs, earned multiple scholarships and awards and published eight peer-reviewed papers. He has also served as a mentor for other graduate students, teaches hunting to young people and is involved in several TWS working groups.

The Donald H. Rusch Memorial Game Bird Scholarship was established to honor Don Rusch, who died unexpectedly in 1999, and to continue his legacy by contributing to studies of game bird biology. The award is presented annually to a graduate student studying any aspect of upland game bird or waterfowl biology and management. This award has been extended and maintained thanks to Chuck Meslow.
