Record number of cold-stunned turtles rescued in Cape Cod

The New England Aquarium has rescued a record number of cold-stunned sea turtles washed ashore on Cape Cod beaches.

Aquarium officials say they have taken in over 700 turtles, topping the 2014 record of 692 rescued turtles.

The turtles become stunned after becoming hypothermic in cold waters. The rising numbers appear to be due in part to unusually warm waters allowing sea turtles to enter the area in the summer before temperatures drop.
