Report details work under Interior game corridor program

A new report highlights the work done to improve big game winter range and migration corridors throughout the American West under an Interior Department program.

Under Secretarial Order 3362, the department has facilitated 73 projects across 11 states since 2018. More than $47 million in federal and matching grants have gone to state-identified research projects, data analysis, mapping and habitat-related projects.

Grant funding has supported 39,000 acres of habitat conservation easements 326 miles of fencing projects and over 300,000 acres of management activities for invasive species. Projects include collaring mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) in Arizona to plan highway crossing structures, collaring elk (Cervus canadensis) in Colorado to understand their movements and collaring pronghorn (Antilocapra Americana) in Nevada to delineate migration corridors and stopover locations and quantify their time on wintering grounds.
