The coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in northeastern Alaska is an important denning area for polar bears. With recent legislation opening the area to oil and gas development, researchers looked at what effects winter seismic surveys across the area could have on cub survival. In the featured article of the February issue of the Journal of Wildlife Management, the authors considered how a range of industrial activities might affect polar bear denning and the role that careful planning could play in reducing disturbances.

Other articles look at the sustainability of wolverine trapping in southern Canada, wildlife interactions with highway underpasses in California and the opportunistic predation of wild turkey nests by wild pigs.
