How do you distinguish between subspecies of sandhill cranes? In a study in the December issue of the Wildlife Society Bulletin, researchers created a field-ready tool to predict greater and lesser sandhill cranes without having to determine an individual’s sex. Researchers found the tool could serve as a fast, inexpensive and accurate method to identify subspecies in the Midcontinent population.

Other articles include a look at attitudes toward wolves in Poland, habitat guidelines for greater sage-grouse in Utah and the two-strike bear directive in Colorado.
