Newborn humpback whale caught on camera

Marine mammal researchers were recently the closest they’ve been in 25 years to recording a humpback whale’s (Megaptera novaeangliae) live birth in Maui, Hawaii. Researchers were drawn to the area after a local tour guide noticed a commotion in the water and soon after saw blood in the water. Manoa’s Marine Mammal Research Program director Lars Bejder rushed to the area and using a drone, soon discovered a newborn calf.
