Announcing the new issue of The Wildlife Professional

The controversy continues to stir about the reintroduction of the Mexican wolf to its native habitat in the Southwest. The cover feature of the September/October issue of The Wildlife Professional looks at a both sides of the effort to save the species from extinction in the wild, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services’ draft recovery plan released on June 30.

In tribute to the 2017 TWS Annual Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the issue also highlights other wildlife in the Southwest, including the ocelot and Sonoran pronghorn. Plus as concerns grow about the continuous border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, biologists are looking at species that would be affected by fragmentation of their habitats.

The issue also features contributed articles on the rethinking wildlife legislation in Canada’s Northwest Territories and a U.S. Court of Appeals’ ruling that lifted federal restrictions under the Lacey Act on the trade and transport of injurious species between states
