TWS sends letter to Trump, transition team

The Wildlife Society sent a letter Tuesday congratulating President-elect Donald Trump on the results of the election and introducing TWS and the collective interests and expertise of its members to the new administration.

In the letter, TWS highlighted the expertise of the Society and its members as a valuable resource to those making decisions regarding wildlife management and conservation. The letter emphasizes TWS’ recognition of the many varied factors that natural resource decisions must consider, while stressing that science should remain the foundation of such decisions. In conclusion, the letter expresses TWS’ commitment to providing timely, practical, and science-based input to Trump and his transition team over the coming years.

In addition to the letter, TWS sent a document outlining 10 primary topical areas that TWS believes will be of importance to the wildlife profession and to natural resource management in coming years. The highlighted topics included promoting science in policy and management decisions, involving wildlife management in energy development planning, enhancing endangered species recovery, and strengthening invasive species prevention and management. Links to TWS position statements, articles, and technical reviews were included within descriptions of each issue.

TWS’ Government Affairs and Partnerships program, charged with supporting policies that empower, enable, and assist wildlife professionals in managing wildlife and their habitats, looks forward to working with the White House and Congress on wildlife and other natural resource issues as the new administration takes shape.
