President Obama Announces Honeybee Protection Plan
President Obama unveiled a new strategy to protect honeybees on Tuesday amidst a sharp decline in bee colonies during winter months in recent years, partly due to what’s known as colony collapse disorder. A group of research laboratories and universities announced last week that beekeepers lost 42.1 percent of their colonies between April 2014 and 2015, and that summer deaths are also increasing. The plan will attempt to manage the ways in which forests damaged by wildfires are replanted as well as deal with the landscaping of offices and preserve roadside habitats used by bees.
