Biologists Target Invasive Lizard in Florida
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently announced plans to step up efforts to find and remove non-native Nile monitor lizards from Florida’s Palm Beach County. These formidable lizards, which can grow to more than 5 feet and weigh as much as 15 pounds, have been known to eat small mammals such as cats, burrowing owls, fish and frogs. FWC biologists plan to assess the species and its impact on Florida’s native wildlife. They also urge citizens to take pictures of the lizard if they spot it and send it to Ivegot1.org.
