COP15 biodiversity summit to go on in Canada
The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity announced that the COP15 biodiversity summit will take place this year, but in Montreal, not in China, where it was scheduled to take place.
The multinational summit will run from Dec. 5-17. China will continue as president of the gathering, despite the change in venue. Representatives from almost 200 member states plan to gather to work out a global agreement to protect species and ecosystems.
The conference had been delayed for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. Scientists feared China’s “zero COVID” strategy would delay the conference one more year. It had been scheduled to take place this fall.
