TWS member Steve Williams honored for role in leadership training
The Boone and Crockett Club recently recognized Steve Williams, president of the Wildlife Management Institute and longtime TWS member, for his role in helping to found and provide direction as the inaugural chair of the National Conservation Leadership Institute’s (NCLI) board of directors.
Williams was presented with the award at the annual Boone and Crockett Club professional members dinner, held during the 87th North American Wildlife and Natural Resource Conference. Williams worked with several other regular and professional members of the Boone and Crockett Club to discuss and create the NCLI.
Now in its 18th year, the program has produced over 500 graduates from 15 cohorts whose ranks include of some of today’s most successful wildlife conservation leaders.
Jimmy Bullock, another longtime TWS member and Boone and Crockett professional member, introduced the award that read: “Presented to Dr. Steve Williams—n recognition of exceptional professional leadership on behalf of the National Conservation Leadership Institute, and your profound impact on the governance and relevancy of future leaders in conservation in the United States.”
Williams has served as the chairman of the board for the NCLI since its inception 17 years ago, a position Bullock will now take over. Given the prominent role of the Boone and Crockett Club in helping found and support the NCLI, and the opportunity to honor Williams in front of many NCLI graduates and other professional peers, the professional member dinner served as an appropriate venue for this recognition.
