The above video about TWS, titled ‘The Wildlife Society – 75 Years and Counting’, is available here for student chapters to use during their meetings. The video provides an overview on the history of the Society, member benefits, professional development opportunities, and potential careers in the wildlife profession.

FORMING A NEW TWS CHAPTER

Forming a TWS Student Chapter at your school is easier than ever! See more information below under “Rules & Other Resources”; or contact Jennifer Murphy at JMurphy@wildlife.org to learn more about forming a new TWS Student Chapter at your school.

Rules & Other Resources

  • TWS Reporting Requirements

TWS has recently made some changes in its administrative relationship to our Student Chapters. TWS Student Chapters are no longer required to meet governance and reporting requirements under TWS. Instead, they should organize under the rules and policies of their school. This frees up the Student Chapters to have more flexibility to focus on their mission, and less on administrative constraints. These administrative changes reduce the amount of reporting that is required to TWS, but should not significantly affect the students’ experience with the Student Chapter.

A few things to note regarding these changes:

    • Student Chapters are no longer required to submit an annual report and tax report to TWS.
    • Student Chapter officers are no longer required to be members of TWS at the national/international level.
    • Student Chapters are no longer required to maintain and operate under the TWS model bylaws.
    • Student Chapters that previously had an Employer Identification Number (EIN) under TWS no longer do; Student Chapters are no longer under the TWS tax exemption.

Here is what we are asking of TWS Student Chapters:

    • Please continue to update TWS with the contact information of new officers. We want to be able to remain in contact with your Student Chapter for communications such as grant and scholarship information, job announcements, and other information relevant to students. We ask that you continue to submit an Officer Report Form with the email addresses of current officers after new elections are held, or after any change in officers or the Student Chapter Advisor.

    • Please send a copy of your university-recognized bylaws to TWS for our files (JMurphy@wildlife.org).

  • Waiver & Release of Liability Form

Varying levels of risk are involved whenever a group makes educational opportunities and events available to members, guests and other individuals. In these situations, your chapter should consider asking participants to complete the TWS Waiver and Release of Liability form.

  • Administrative Support

The Wildlife Society staff and Council actively encourage the formation and success of Student Chapters and provide ongoing assistance to them. Administrative support is provided primarily by the TWS Certification and Outreach Manager. Staff support of student chapters may consist of, but is not limited to, promoting membership; maintaining membership lists; providing space for student chapter news in TWS’ publications and on TWS’ website; fostering meetings, seminars, and other forums for student chapters; providing technical assistance with e-newsletters, other publications, and electronic communications; and other actions as Council or the Executive Director deem appropriate.

  • TWS Logo

Thinking of printing stationary for your chapter, section, or working group? Are you designing a new logo for your organization unit? Download the various TWS logo files below.

Advance approval of any designs using The Wildlife Society’s logo, including t-shirts, is no longer required from TWS staff. If the TWS logo is used, please use one of the following:
