Scholarship opportunity: TWS’ Wetlands Working Group (WWG) is offering one $1,000 student scholarship. The scholarship is open to any new or current student member of the WWG working on wetland or wetland-dependent wildlife research who is currently enrolled (Fall 2022 semester) as a graduate student. If you are a student member of TWS but not yet a WWG member, you can join for only $5 and are then eligible to apply! Please see the flyer below for details on the application and evaluation process by the current officers. Applications will be accepted until Oct. 19, 2022 , and we will announce the winner of the scholarship at our annual meeting in early November (date/time TBD). We will require a project update/completion report (depending on project status) at the 2023 annual meeting to share with the WWG members. If you have any questions regarding the application process or materials, please reach out to WWG Chair Jay VonBank at jvonbank@usgs.gov . This is the first graduate research scholarship presented by WWG and we are excited to learn about and support our student members!

Run for Office!

The Wetlands Working Group of The Wildlife Society is seeking nominations for positions of Vice-Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. The Vice Chair will serve as such for the 2022-2023 term, succeed to Chair for 2023-2024, and then become Past Chair for the 2024-2025 term; a total service period of 3 years. The Secretary/Treasurer is a 2-year position. Service will begin following elections at the annual membership meeting for the Wetlands Working Group, to be held during the virtual 2022 TWS Annual Conference.

Officers develop content for the biannual newsletter, assist with organizing symposia, identify social media content applicable to the Group’s mission, and participate in other activities as needed to increase communication about wetland and wildlife-related issues among WWG members. Board Meetings are once a month by conference call (1 hour), so you can participate from anywhere! Including monthly meetings, time commitments average 2-4 hours/month for Vice Chair, Past Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer, and 4-8 hours/month for Chair.

Consider nominating yourself or a colleague who is committed to wetland conservation! New and existing members are welcome! Please submit all nominations electronically to Phillip Stephensen, phillipleestephenson@gmail.com by 19 October 2022. Nominations should include name, contact information, photo of you in the field, and a brief bio.
