Celebrating turtles on World Turtle Day

With all six turtle species in the United States listed as either federally threatened or endangered, it’s important to think about human actions and lifestyle changes that can help conserve them. World Turtle Day is celebrated on May 23 as a way to get information to the public about how to conserve these species. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service offers tips on protecting sea turtles such as minimizing beachfront lighting during sea turtle nesting season and leaving turtle tracks undisturbed so researchers can follow them. Also watch these hatchling softshell turtles disappear into the mud.
