BLM accepting comments for Alaska energy development

The Environmental Protection Agency posted the Bureau of Land Management’s draft Environmental Impact Statement  and maps for oil and gas developments within the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A) in the Federal Register on March 23.

The Greater Mooses Tooth 2 drilling project would be near ConocoPhillips’ existing Greater Mooses Tooth 1 project, and it would extend the company’s infrastructure deeper into NPR-A and closer to the allegedly rich deposits announced in December. The Wildlife Society has previously urged the administration to balance wildlife needs with energy development in this area.

The BLM is accepting public comments until May 7. Details on related public meetings in Alaska will be posted on the BLM website.=
